On August 1, petrol and diesel prices remained stagnant once more for 68 days now in India. The new authorities in Maharashtra introduced a Value-Added Tax (VAT) minimize on petrol by Rs 5 per litre and on diesel by Rs 3 per litre on July 15. Fuel prices have been left untouched since Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman introduced an excise responsibility minimize on petrol and diesel by Rs 8 per litre and Rs 6 per litre, respectively.

Petrol and diesel prices are set by public sector Oil Marketing Companies, comparable to Indian Oil Corporation Ltd (IOCL), Hindustan Petroleum Corporation Ltd (HPCL) and Bharat Petroleum Corporation Ltd (BPCL) each day in accordance with overseas alternate charges and worldwide benchmark prices.
