Kuldeep, Khaleel derail Knight Riders’ chase after half-centuries from Shaw, Warner energy the facet to season’s highest whole; Shreyas lone warrior for Kolkata

Delhi Capitals regained its profitable contact by beating a listless Kolkata Knight Riders by 44 runs in an Indian Premier League match on the Brabourne Stadium right here on Sunday.

After posting the best whole of the season — 215 for 5 — Capitals snuffed out Knight Riders’ problem via very good bowling efforts from Kuldeep Yadav and Khaleel Ahmed.

Impactful

Shardul Thakur adopted his impactful innings of 29 not out with two wickets within the last over to terminate the Knight Riders innings at 171. Kolkata captain Shreyas Iyer, with a half-century, put up the one actual effort.

Knight Riders wanted an electrical begin. But Venkatesh Iyer flickered briefly and Ajinkya Rahane was all at sea. Khaleel snared each openers.

Shreyas and Nitish Rana added 69 for the third wicket for a mid-innings resurgence.

However, Kuldeep lured Shreyas out of his crease for Rishabh Pant to impact a simple stumping and it was nearly as good as over when the spinner scalped three in his last over.

Earlier, speedy half-centuries by David Warner and Prithvi Shaw, adopted by cameos from Shardul, Pant and Axar Patel, noticed Capitals submit a mammoth whole.

Roaring on the prime

The dynamic pair of Shaw and Warner despatched the Knight Riders fielders on a leather-based hunt, placing on 93 for the primary wicket.

Shaw was off the blocks in a flash, punching the primary ball of the match from Umesh Yadav for a boundary. Marginal errors from the tempo bowlers had been punished by Shaw, forcing Shreyas to summon his thriller spinners — Varun Chakravarthy and Sunil Narine — within the PowerPlay. But there was little reward.

Warner deposited Varun over deep midwicket for a six after which reverse-swept Narine for a boundary as Capitals scored 68 within the PowerPlay.

Varun cleaned up Shaw quickly after he accomplished his fifty but it surely introduced no respite as Pant went into assault mode rapidly.

He clattered Pat Cummins over his head for a six and performed his trademark falling sweep(s) so as to add 55 for the second wicket with Warner.

Knight Riders pulled issues back via Narine, who dismissed Lalit Yadav and Rovman Powell cheaply.

However, Shardul and Axar ended the innings in a flourish, clobbering Cummins and Umesh for 39 within the last two overs.
